  1. PERSONAL STATEMENT

I am a faculty member at the Full Professorship cadre with over 20 years of significant experience in industrial, research, academic and outreach programmes. My research interests span materials development and processing for emerging technologies such as low-energy fusion welding processes and surface modification of metallic materials for improved corrosion and thermal efficiency. In specifics, these research portfolios cover materials processing and fabrication via the use of TIG torch melting and laser material processing for improving material behaviour in service. In the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic, I led other researchers in the University of Lagos to develop a patented affordable rapidly deployable Ambubag medical ventilator as our response to the containment of the scourge. I have successfully supervised close to 85 undergraduate students, about 22 master’s students, and 2 Ph.D. candidates with ongoing supervision of 3 Ph.D. candidates. I have collaborated with colleagues in several multidisciplinary research undertakings resulting in a net grant portfolio of over a billion Naira cutting across materials development, equipment grant and medical device, improving water access and development of innovation ecosystem in Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda, and Malaysia. I have extensive experience and capacity in the conceptualization, design and implementation of institutional programmes for building capacities to deliver transformational impact. I have published over 95 publications in various journals, conferences, technical reports, book chapters, monographs and dissertations. I have also reviewed for several journals including Journal of Materials Processing Technology (Elsevier-ISI Indexed), Advances in Materials Processing and Technologies (Taylor & Francis); and examined over 16 doctoral theses across the world. I am a registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and holds membership of several other professional bodies both in Nigeria and outside Nigeria.
