I warmly welcome prospective, and returning students, alumni, and well-wishers to the webpage of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. The department established on January 20, 2000, and envisioned as a world-renowned academic unit in all aspects of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering has remained committed to providing a conducive learning environment to our students in all spheres of teaching, learning and research, and by extension offering community service to the society via our range of consultancy services and advocacy The department runs both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes leading to the award of a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering with specialization in mineral processing, physical metallurgy, materials development and processing, welding and surface modification, foundry technology, structural and non-structural ceramics, corrosion, composite technology and nanotechnology. Our commitment to scholarship is to sustain our heritage of providing an all-round learning experience to our students and make them globally competitive graduates. In the last two decades plus, graduates of the department have engaged in several sectors of the national and global economies giving good testimonials to the training received in the department. The department has the full complement of academic staff across the cadre supported by experienced technical staff in all aspects of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. In the Year 2022, the Senate of the University approved an undergraduate programme in Polymer Engineering and the programme shall soon commence. The department is also currently undertaking a transformational restructuring of its programme to unbundle and birth new programmes such as Foundry Engineering, Corrosion Engineering and Welding Engineering to pioneer the national transformation in these sought-after disciplines.
